AATA to participate in Curb Your Car Month
ANN ARBOR, MI – The Ann Arbor Transportation Authority (AATA) will participate with the getDowntown program and other sponsors in the fourth annual Curb Your Car Month and Commuter Challenge, which will kick off on Thursday, May 1, 2008.
AATA’s involvement includes:
FREE TRANSIT DAY - Thursday, May 1 – AATA fareboxes will be bagged to allow all passengers to ride free throughout the day.
COMMUTER CHALLENGE - May 1-31 – This month-long challenge encourages employees at participating companies to try getting to work by walking, biking, riding transit, carpooling or vanpooling.
SPEEDPOOLING EVENT - Monday, May 12, 5:30-6:30 and 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Conor O’Neill’s - Employees interested in finding carpool or vanpool partners can try out AATA’s new online carpool-vanpool matching software, which provides instant matches.
COMMUTER EXPRESS SERVICE - Thursday, May 15 - The A2-Chelsea Express commuter bus service will begin with free service for pre-registered commuters. The monthly pre-paid introductory fare is $125 starting in June.
Two morning trips to Ann Arbor and two afternoon trips to Chelsea will operate on weekdays. Early-morning trips will leave the Arctic Coliseum in Chelsea at 6:09 and 7:08 a.m.; stop at Huron and Ashley, Huron and Fifth, and Huron and Fletcher; and arrive at Ann and Observatory streets in Ann Arbor at 6:40 and 7:45 a.m.
Return trips in the afternoon will depart from Ann and Observatory at 3:44 and 5:12 p.m.; make stops at Huron and Fletcher, Huron and Fifth and Huron and Ashley; and arrive at the Arctic Coliseum in Chelsea at 4:15 and 5:44 p.m.

BIKE TO WORK DAY RALLY - Friday, May 16, 8:00 a.m. at Ann Arbor City Hall - Bike riders will converge on City Hall from outlying areas for this annual event. AATA will display its bike rack for bike riders to try and will provide assistance on using the racks.
MICHIVAN EVENT - Tuesday, May 20, Noon at the Federal Building - How many balloons can fit into a MichiVan? Commuters are encouraged to stop by to guess the number of balloons to win a prize and register for carpool or vanpool matching.
NIGHTRIDE SHUTTLE LAUNCH - Thursday, May 22 - A demonstration pilot service will begin as part of AATA’s NightRide service to provide rides from one pick-up point to the West Side of Ann Arbor and the Pioneer High Park & Ride lot for the general public and workers whose shifts end after regular bus service ends. The first 1,000 rides will be free to passengers through a grant from the Downtown Development Authority.
